Rhinophyma Procedures and Removal
A form of severe rosacea and a skin condition affecting the nose in which the skin is thickened and the sebaceous (oil) glands are enlarged. The skin appears coloured or red and often has prominent blood vessels, which may be thin and red (telangiectasia) or larger and purplish in hue (venulectasia). The affected and unsightly skin may be bulbous, pitted due to prominent pores (which may ooze sebum or contain a scaly plug), and scarred. Our fractional Co2 laser treatment is exceptionally successful in dramatically reducing the condition in just one or two treatments, depending on severity. Usually for best results, more than one treatment is advisable, and the treatment is very long-lasting.
Symptoms include changes in the nose, such as:
- Bulb-like (bulbous) shape
- Many oil glands
- Reddish or purplish colour
- Thickening of the skin
- Waxy, yellow surface
What is Rhinophyma and its cause?
Rhinophyma is a skin disorder, but the exact cause of rhinophyma is unknown, but it’s considered a subtype of severe rosacea. Quite often, people with rhinophyma – mainly men – do not show symptoms of rosacea, and are often only afflicted in the area of the nose.
Again, depending on the degree of the disorder, Aquarius can often completely eliminate the visual symptoms, though with severe cases a marked improvement is all that can be expected.
